I follow a marvellous blog called Zan Habits, and Leo, the writer, does, from time to time, publish a lot of material from his blog as an ebook, very reasonably priced and I am sure he sells heaps of them. I bought one, just as a thank you for his blog, as it had so insired me, and I would buy yours, too, of course. I am, indeed, thinking of an emotional planning for retirement book along with my memoir and a memoir about my two therapy cats Timmy and Marina. My agent has reservations about the retirement book (he says books about cancer and retirement are tough sells in general) but is open to my working on a possible proposal if we can find a pattern of success of "soft" (non-financial) retirement books. That course you took sounds fantastic -- and was critically important if it convinced you that you didn't need to move. Thank goodness! I hope you're pondering the possibility.

Two years before we retired we attended a weeklong seminar at UNC Asheville called "Paths to Creative Retirement", which is essentially a values clarification program. We learned two valuable things about ourselves: (1) the only thing we don't love about the Pacific Northwest is January (so we didn't move, but are out of there in January); and (2) that we see enough of our children and grandchildren, so we don't have to move.

What a relief, to realize we didn't want to move!Linda Myershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05706455533282204519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754684819908801536.post-64521029068374873842011-08-09T05:40:04.738-07:002011-08-09T05:40:04.738-07:00I really enjoyed this. I so enjoy reading your blog posts, too, Maggie and Patti! It's so interesting, isn't it, that despite geographical and occupational differences -- which mean so little actually -- we women of a certain age can understand and empathize with each other so well. A neighbor of mine mentioned that she has never trusted women and always preferred friendships with men (I have an upcoming blog on the pleasure of girlfriends) and I kept thinking how very much she has been and is missing! I'm so glad we've come into each others' lives!Dr. Kathy McCoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02903015507894951725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754684819908801536.post-5580281975680893412011-08-08T08:47:13.411-07:002011-08-08T08:47:13.411-07:00Just sitting here enjoying my morning with my daug...Just sitting here enjoying my morning with my daughter at a near by coffee shop. She is working and I am trying to catch up with my blogging buddies.
Like my friend Ms Ark Patti commented I too agree that this is excellent advice as always.
You coming into my life has truly been a blessing because I love reading your post. I must mention you in one of my post so others can enjoy getting to know you as I have been fortunate to do so.
I know a few women like the one your friend mentioned and it's so sad that God gave them such a lovely place to live and they are missing out on such a blessing. It will inform you of types of crimes, what entertainment is offered, prices from everything from real estate to groceries, what that particular community deems important either politically or socially. It is a wealth of information.
I am a very flexible person who has moved a lot so I bend to fit my community.
Arkansas PattiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754684819908801536.post-30330706723947885412011-08-07T11:14:35.744-07:002011-08-07T11:14:35.744-07:00As usual your blog was SO right on! When we chose our next destination we do research to make sure it is an area which fulfills our needs. We don't mind being in the boondocks but have to have access to shopping, movie theaters and restaurants within a fairly close distance. (no, Pahrump doesn't qualify for me either :-)
Your final paragraph sums up how I feel about retirement and my lifestyle - love it!Bjhttp://onajourney.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
